It’s been a busy few weeks so it was decided that we’d have some much needed family time over the weekend. We asked the girls what they’d like to do and they suggested a trip to the cinema to see ‘The Greatest Showman’. Jon and I weren’t that fussed about watching it but the kids really wanted us to watch the movie with them so we went along anyway.
I don’t want to give anything away about the film, just in case you’re planning on watching it but I’m so glad I went to see it. I really felt God speaking to me through the storyline and wanted to share with you all what I took from it.
The story starts off with the main guy in the story, P.T. Barnum, as a young boy. It depicts him as being a bit of a dreamer and although he has no wealth or status, he has a dream to do something great with his life. He breaks into song and sings the following lyrics,
“Cause every night I lie in bed, the brightest colours fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake. I think of what the world could be, a vision of the one I see, a million dreams is all it’s gonna take, a million dreams for the world we’re gonna make.”
My spirit immediately connected with the lyrics of this beautiful song and I began to think about all the times when I’d lay awake in bed, excited and mind racing, thoughts buzzing with the ideas, dreams and visions that God was giving me.
The film continues and you watch the main guy’s dreams come to pass. You see him achieve the impossible and prove his critics wrong. You witness him holding on to his dream and continue, despite the odds being stacked against him.
You may have a dream or a vision that God has given to you and it may appear that the odds are stacked against you. This dream may seem like it’s never going to happen and you may even be questioning if God has given it to you in the first place. The waiting may be getting you down and you’re on the verge of quitting.
If this is the case for you today, allow this scripture found in Matthew 19:26 to speak to your heart and encourage you.
Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
We serve a God of the impossible and there is absolutely nothing that is too difficult for our God to do. The word that God has spoken over your life will not return void but will accomplish all it set out to do, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
I will leave you with this last quote and pray you are encouraged to continue pursuing the dreams and visions that God continues to speak into your lives.
“The moment you feel like giving up on your dreams is usually the moment right before the miracle happens.”
