David, the man after God’s own heart, King of Israel, mighty warrior, giant slayer and known otherwise as the man who danced before the Lord, in just his underwear!
2 Samuel 6:14 “And David danced before the LORD with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.”
As David worshipped the Lord with everything he had, his wife, Michal, was filled with embarrassment and contempt for him.
2 Samuel 6:16 ……..Michal, daughter of Saul, watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
How awful that his very own wife despised him! As followers of Jesus, we can be sure that we will come across people in our own lives that despise us too, even those that are closest to us.
Its not really an attack on the person but on ‘the One’ that is within them. It can be likened to magnets repelling away from each other.
The ‘Michal’s’ of this world will find it challenging to understand your joy and love for the Lord until they encounter Jesus for themselves and chances are you are going to look like a complete fool in front of them.
David’s reply to Michal is a real encouragement for when we are going through times of ridicule.
2 Samuel 6:21-22 David said to Michal……. I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.
David’s pride was not in himself but in his God, who had brought him through every trial he had ever faced. David had experienced, time and time again, God’s great faithfulness, making it an impossibility for him to contain his heartfelt worship.
When we encounter Jesus and walk daily with Him, trusting Him, we will surely see His goodness in our lives. With a grateful heart and genuine love for Jesus, a heart of unashamed Praise and worship will be cultivated.
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life— Whom shall I dread?
Blessings to you all!
